History of Atom Models
Mya Jamison Period 3
Timeline
- 1803 Dalton proposed the idea of an atom to the scientific community. His model was just one solid sphere.
- ~1900 Thomson invented the plum pudding model of the atom. The pudding was the positively charged matter, while the plums were electrons.
- 1911 Rutherford found out that an atom is more likely to be mostly empty space with most of its mass concentrated in the center; the nucleus.
- 1913 Bohr proposed the hydrogen atom. The electrons in this atom will orbit around the atom’s nucleus.
- 1926 Schrödinger explained that the behavior of electons could be explained as them working as waves .
